You are probably aware that since June 2019, Instagram started to tighten its rules, to prevent people from botting and spamming on their app. We’ll see what triggers the action block. And also what are the things that can be done to decrease the chance or completely avoid action blocks.

How To Solve Instagram Action Blocked

Causes of Instagram Action Blocked

Let’s first start with what are the things that trigger the action block? And what are the things that you can do to prevent it from happening? An action block is usually triggered by the number of actions you’ve been doing per hour or per day on your account. Now the limit is quite different. And so far, we figured out it depends on a lot of different things. So let’s go over these triggers.

Age of Instagram Account

The first thing is the account age, the more age your account is, the more actions you will be able to perform. We’ve seen a big increase in daily actions after the account reaches one month, three months and 12 months of age.

Account Authority

The second thing is account authority in terms of followers, posts and total engagement rate. The more actions you will be able to perform in one month, let’s say 5k followers is usually able to perform more actions than a one-month-old account with 500 followers. Also, you need to have several posts, accounts with only one or two posts have a much greater chance to receive the action block.

Causes of Action Blocked on Instagram

Excessive Actions

If you post too much, comments and likes during a short span of time. If you keep repeating your actions and using hashtags that are not allowed or follow too much. All these can trigger Action blocked. Always, try to stay within the Instagram guidelines. Below are the limits for New and Old Accounts.

New Account action Limits per Hour:
Number of likes: 30
Number of comments: 30
Number of follows/unfollows:30

Old Account action Limits per hour:
Number of likes: 60
Number of comments: 60
Number of follows: 60
Number of messages: 60

IP Address

We have noticed that the accounts that use the 4G network while performing actions have the ability to do many more actions than the accounts that are on the home network. It also seems that the total amount of accounts running from the same IP, especially if it’s a home network has an effect on the daily action limit.

Copyright Infringement

If you post some copyrighted images or videos without giving credits or tagging the owner, it means you are in trouble. Instagram takes copyright infringement very seriously and your account can be blocked for violating the copyright guidelines.

Previous Violations

If the account had the previous action blocked, your actual limit decreases. We are not sure for how long the account stays flagged from previous violations. But we’ve also noticed that violations on one account affect other accounts that are being run on the same device or the IP address.

Third-party apps and tools

Instagram hates 3rd Part Apps that are meant to tweaks its system for gaining followers, fake likes and comments. The use of third-party apps, tools, and bots is easily detectable by Instagram now and can seriously decrease your daily action limit. Not only that, but it can also be the sole cause of your action blocks.

Incomplete Profile

If you leave your Profile without an email address, phone number and without linking your Instagram to your Facebook account, the chances of getting blocked are high.

User Complaints

If your account is reported by someone for some reason, you can be in trouble and get Action Blocked. The different actions you perform such as excessive likes, mass following, insulting other users, inappropriate or copyrighted contents, spam, and others. All these can land you into trouble.

Overall Account health score

The lower the account health score is the lower your daily action. So try to main good health scores by following the Instagram rules.

Type of actions

Not all actions carry the same amount of weight. One thing that increases the chance of getting the action blocked is if you are performing the same type of action over and over again without mixing things up. So if you are following users every day without liking, commenting, or sending DMS, you will more likely trigger the action block. Number nine is the type of account. It seems that business and creator accounts are much less likely to get hit with the action.

Types of Action Blocked on Instagram

There are three types of action blocks on Instagram. Let’s see each one of these;

Types of Instagram Action Blocked

Timestamps

The first one has a timestamp attached to it and this usually gets taken away within the timeframe of that timestamps. So let’s say the timestamp says that your action block will be removed on September 1, then it should be removed on September 1 or the following day after that.

Temporary Blocked

A second action block is a temporarily blocked message. And this can be removed within about 12 to 24 hours if you respond to it quickly. So let’s say you see the temporary block message. Once you see that message, what you want to do is immediately log out of Instagram and don’t use it for about 12 to 24 hours. And this usually resolves the issue once you log back in after that period of time. The block is normally removed if you get that temporary block message.

Bear in mind that if you see this message and you still continue to use and do actions on your account. The block is going to be more aggressive and it’s going to last longer.

Action Blocked

The third type of action blocked message is the message that just says action blocked. This one is usually the worst since it doesn’t have an actual expiration date. It can last from several hours to up to two whole weeks. And this is the one that causes the most issues, where the below tips will come into play.

The most common way to get rid of the action block is to log out of Instagram for 24 hours. So log up, don’t use the app at all for 24 hours maybe even deleted it from your phone. And many people have reported that this has worked for them.

Remove Third-party Apps

remove third party apps

In case, if you have been using third-party apps, remove them completely. So you go into your Instagram account on your PC. And you go into the settings and remove all third-party apps. Using and linking a third-party app that helps you boost posts or to get you more followers is against Instagram’s terms of use and service. And if the algorithm picks up on you using these services, you’re going to be in an action block. Remove all third-party apps, log out of Instagram log back in and see if that worked.

Use Another Device

The next thing you can do is to use another device. So if you have another cell phone lying around, use that and switch to mobile data, turned Wi-Fi off and make sure you are using your cellular data and this has helped people get rid of the extra block.

Report To Instagram

Another thing you can do is to report the problem to Instagram every couple of days. If you notice that you are under the action block for a long time, report the problem. Keep reporting the problem and let Instagram know with screenshots that you’re not using third-party apps, boosting your posts things like that. If you’re sticking to the rules, let them know with a screenshot of the message of the action block. And some people have said that they haven’t been removed after the date that the timestamp said they will get removed. So report that problem.

Sometimes it can be an error with Instagram, the system’s get clogged up. So if you just let them know about the problem, they should be able to help you out and remove your action block. Go to settings, help report a problem, and just explain that you can’t like, follow or comment.

Remove Hashtag and Requests

Removing all the hashtags from your recent Instagram posts is also recommended. If you have used hashtags that are included in the list of banned hashtags can lead to an action block. So just to be on the safe side, go to your posts, and remove all the hashtags and see if that works.

Cancel Follow Requests

Cancel all the follow requests that you have made from your account. To do this, click on your followers and delete all the follow requests you have sent. Then try and do certain actions after a couple of hours.

Mixing up Actions

As you can see from the triggers, you need to start behaving like a regular user. Start mixing your actions up like commenting, liking, following, and so on. Don’t just use one type of actions repeatedly. Also, try to avoid repeating the same action in the same amount of time over and over again.

You can set your timer to exactly one hour where you will open Instagram and follow exactly 50 people just to keep things random. You should also spend some time just scrolling and liking the posts in your feed. Once your action block is lifted, first stop all actions for a few days. Also, lower your hourly and daily actions.

Change Device and Limit Your Actions

And finally, if you are running several accounts and you’ve been getting action blocks on some of them, try using a different device and IP address for the rest of your accounts. Now follow these exact number of actions per hour and per day, especially because of the potential random factor. If your account is completely new, you should start really slow in the first week. Just make two or three followers per hour and up to 20 per day along with some likes and comments. You should slowly increase to up to 20 to 30 per hour and up to 150 per day.

Then after one month. You should slowly increase to up to 40 per hour and up to 250 per day after three months. If you are following any other methods like 3rd Party apps, you should stop following users completely. But if you still want to keep doing it, you should be able to finally increase to 50 followers per hour. Try to go slow, since there’s absolutely no need to do more than that, and it’s better to be extra safe.
