5 Best Beauty Apps and Makeup Apps to help you look better

By Amelia

I’m going to be breaking down my top five favourite game-changing beauty apps. Everything from apps that give you a virtual makeover. To help you do products or find out ingredients that may be potentially harmful in your skincare and beauty routine. So without further ado, let’s jump right into the breakdown of my top five best beauty apps and makeup apps.

Best Beauty Apps and Makeup Apps to help you look better

1. SallyBeauty

I think you are going to be surprised, by our top pick. SallyBeauty has two really cool features on its app. The first one is called Color View. Honestly, they must have worked with Snapchat or Instagram. The filters that they use for this virtual makeover are very accurate and super cool. The way that they design this app is, you can choose hair colour makeup, blush contour from already existing products that Sally has in stock. So I often buy from Sally,  that’s where I get my hair dye my bleach from.

Whenever there’s a new product, I’m always curious about it. But with this app, you can see what you look like. Western hair colours, and if you like something you can order it within the app. So I played around with this and I had so much fun testing out new colours. A couple of brands I’ve been trying is the good die young brand by Hayley Williams.

There were a couple of new ion shades that came out. So it was so much fun seeing what I look like in different colours. I even got my mom to test it out and her favourite came out of all the crazy exotic colours with pink, but you can also go natural.

They have their full range, and you can play around with all the different colours that they offer. So I was really impressed with the hair aspect. Because if you’ve ever tried to edit hair colour, even on a still photo, it’s super difficult to do so. The fact that this filter could detect hair is really impressive. I also love that you can play with the makeup, something that I don’t normally buy from Sally. But, again, you know, this is something that a lot of other apps will charge you for and this is completely free.

When you’re happy with your makeover, adding lashes blush, different eyeshadows, you can take a photo to send it out to your friends. You can also place an order in the app. So the other thing that I really liked about Sally’s app is the virtual makeover and they also have a hair texture quiz.

The app uses AI technology to measure out your facial features, your hair texture, it will actually give you results immediately. I just wanted to see how this works, and what’s cool is after it determines what your hair texture is going to. It asks you what types of goals do you have for your hair. Mine was worth the hair volume sculpt. You can choose whatever you want and that it asks you what types of products are you into. This is where you can get really neat picky if you want, vegan.

If you want a gluten-free GMO. You have full control and so once you’re finished with the quiz, it gives you the results. I was surprised because of some of the products that it suggested to me. I’ve used it in the past and totally forgotten about so I thought that was very cool. You can really break down and customize what you’re looking for and your hair.

I love the fact that it could figure out what type of hair pattern you have, it’s a very cool technology that is why I’m making this my number one.

2. BRANDEFY

Coming in at number two is Brandefy, which is all about dupes. I love the way this app is designed and developed. It reminds me of Instagram. In this app, you can search for many products, brands, even stores within the app and come up with dupe results. This way you can filter by face, and it will show you a more enlightening camel concealer.

This app gives you a similarity scale to let you know how similar the product is. Including a little bit of a peer review because this is peer review based. And for those of you that aren’t even here. So, as I mentioned, I love the way that this app is set up. It’s pure amazing, so you can share some of your own dupes or ask questions if you’re having a hard time finding a product. You can put it out into the forums and people will help you find it.

So I really wanted to recommend the app to you guys because it’s so useful. I also thought it was fun that they added articles from certified professionals, dermatologist estheticians, who give you reviews and products that they recommend as well as dupes.

3. Think Dirty

At number three, we have Think Dirty. This app can help you break down which ingredients that are in your products that are potentially harmful toxic. It also gives you better alternatives. So honestly I found out about this app from the entire Diva Curl situation. There was a hairstylist that use this app to show that some of Deva Curl’s ingredients were not the best for hair. So I really liked this app, honestly.

In the past year and a half, that’s when I really started to care about the ingredients that were in my products. Because a brand can come out and say this product has hyaluronic acid in it. And then you’ll look through the ingredients, and that hyaluronic acid is at the bottom of the list. Products that are at the top are the most potent, the ones that are at the bottom have very low percentages.

So, I become more interested in ingredients. I found that this app is very helpful especially with some of these ingredients that I cannot even pronounce. The app has a very interesting dirty meter rating. It gives you a 1 to 10 scale on how potentially bad or harmful, a certain ingredient is. It gives you an overall rating, and a really cool feature of this app is that you can use the barcode to scan products. You can scan products at home, or when you’re out shopping.

This app does tell you what products or ingredients are harmful, and why, which is really important. Because some things may be good for you to have, and other things could or may affect your immune system or if you have allergies. I’ve been noticing that more people are caring about ingredients, that’s why I wanted to share this. The app is free to use, and very useful especially if you’re out shopping.

If you don’t have the time to read through reviews or watch videos on the product. The app gives you a highlighted list of the ingredients and knows if the product is worth the buy or not. Another cool feature is that you can keep track of the products that you already have at home and create shopping lists in the app. These are some of the reasons why I’m ranking Think Dirty at the number three spot.

Requirements: Android 5.0 and up, iOS 13.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

4. Cherie

Moving on to number four, this app is called Cherie. So, this is almost like Instagram or Facebook or makeup reviews. It’s similar to Brandefy because they share a talk about dupes. But this app asks you what skin type you have, it’s going to offer you suggestions. Once you click a product like a foundation, it will give you several similar foundations that are both high end and low end. So it gives you a more extensive review compared to the Brandefy.

cherie - Your Social Beauty App

What I really like is once you click that product, it’ll give you all the similar ones, a review and then underneath it. It will showcase any other peer reviews that include that product in it. In this way, you can get a very wide diverse perspective on a product. And if you’re looking to try something new, and you don’t want to go through the hassle of the failures. This app can kind of takes the guesswork out of it.

Cherie makes it easier to find reviews that really cater to you and what you care about. So again, the app interviews you on skin type and brands and it’s trying to cater to what you would like in a product. So that’s why I’m recommending Cherie as number four.

5. Glamsquad

So we’re ending our top list with a unique app called Glamsquad, which is on-demand beauty. So the only con to this app is that it is available only in selected cities of the US. This app provides a smart way to hire independent contractors to come to your home and perform beauty services. So there’s a lot that they are offering and the price is a little bit high. But you have to consider that they are coming to your home.

The way it works is you schedule a date, time, and the type of service. And the person comes to wherever you live. They offer everything from getting your makeup done to even have makeup courses, and you can also get your nails done as well.

Glamsquad On-Demand Salon App

Another cool feature is once you set up your appointment, you can add style photos of inspiration. Maybe a haircut or style that you want to do, a celebrity or something that you saw online you can add that in. So they know exactly what you want.

The other features that I do like from doing research, they have a certain set standard for each type of procedures. So they keep to the brand way of doing things. This is the way that the brand does, and they stick to that, so it’s more consistent. That way if you do order this service monthly, you get someone different, you’re probably more likely to get the same result.

I really like that you can get all this done from the comfort of your own home. And honestly, even though this is a little bit on the pricier side. I would love to do this for special events like weddings in the future, have them come and do my makeup and hair. There’s a lot of cool ways to utilize the Glamsquad app.

Size: iOS – 382.2 MB
Requirement: iOS 11.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

All right, so that was my final app and just to recap, we talked about the Sally Beauty app where you can customize your hair colour, your makeup. Also, get a hair quiz on your hair texture and what goals you have. We also talked about Brandefy and Cherie almost like an Instagram Facebook for makeup. We also went through Think Dirty to break down the ingredients in your products and lastly, we added Glamsquad, which is on-demand beauty.

I have so much fun, sharing my top five game-changing beauty apps with you guys. I hope you enjoyed them, and of course if you have some of your favourites. Please be sure to share them because I always love testing out new stuff when it comes to beauty.
